Switch Butter 180s can be used to get
back from Switch to forwards or just a shred around the mountain with style.
Before learning Switch Butters, make sure you can ride Switch comfortably. To learn
Switch Butters first learn how to ride on the tails of your skis, like a Wheelie.
Wheelies are when you put all of your weight on the tails of your skis and
hold it for a bit. To Wheelie efficiently, it’s important to keep your back from
arching and being weak. To do that stick your hips low and back.
Engage your core to allow your shoulders to be over your hips and keep your feet
together for balance. Next, try and do a Switch 180, starting with wide staggered
feet on the ground. Make sure to be on your uphill edges to avoid any edge
catches. Now, to begin pressing on your skis do the Switch 180 and at 90, lean
your hips back over the tails of your skis like the Wheelie. At first the noses
may not lift very high, but the pivot point will become noticeable on the
tails of the skis. With that it’s important to pull the feet back under so
that you can get back to Center for a clean ride out. Keep practicing leaning
further to the tails by dropping the hips back to Butter more and to get the
noses higher off the ground. Try and Ollie at the end to add some style to it. To play around with it out of 180 at the
end to form a Switch Butter 360. I’m Dean Bercovitch from Ski Addiction Helping You Ski Better
